This summer, while I'm in Austin, I will be a part of the ministry team at my church for the new college ministry called Veritas (which means The Truth). For about 5 years, the church has had a ministry for college and single adults...a broad range of ages and stages of life. The group has grown and we've recently gone through some changes in leadership, so it seemed time to split into 2 distinct groups. Obviously I believe the college years are some of the most life-changing and important years of a person's life, so I was more than excited to be a part of this new venture.
Two nights ago we had our second Bible study of the summer. We will be taking a look at the abundant life and how it is just as much a part of the gospel as the original decision to trust Christ for salvation. Jeremiah, our leader, wanted the students to start this study off with the end in mind. So Tuesday night we headed out to a local cemetery to start thinking about what we will be remembered for when we're no longer on this earth. After some quiet reflection time we came together in small groups. Me and 7 girls discussed what we'd want to be remembered for, and ,therefore, what we would live for. What do we start doing now so that we end well--to be able to say as Paul did, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
It is very exciting to think about all 30-40 of these college students begining to live their lives for the purpose to which God calls them--to live the abundant life. Like Paul taking the gospel to the gentiles, these students can make a huge impact on the world around them in so many ways. I pray the we will all be able to look back over our lives in the end and see how God used us through our obedience.
