When most people think of college students on spring break, images of drunken parties on the beach usually come to mind. While that is a reality for many, we are striving for so much more for our students. This much needed break from school can provide a time to rest and prepare for that last push toward summer. It also presents an opportunity to do things we don’t have time for when classes are in full swing. So when Sean, the part-time staff at Cal Poly Pomona, mentioned that he had a connection at Cal State San Bernardino and wanted to launch a Destino movement there, we knew we needed to seize the opportunity. This was a chance to reach more students on a new campus in our scope and to involve our students from other campuses in ministry elsewhere. Since CSUSB had a different spring break, we planned to take a couple of days during the first week of April to see how God could work.
About 25 students and staff from Destino and Cru at Cal State Long Beach and Cal State Fullerton spent 2 days of their spring break at Cal State San Bernardino talking to students, giving away horchata, and promoting an informational meeting about Destino. Because San Bernardino is pretty far northeast of where most were coming from, they spent 2 nights in a local church bonding and praying for their time there. By the end of the second day on campus, 8 students from CSUSB were committed to starting and leading a new Destino movement!
Since then, they have had a handful of meetings and have consistently had 10-15 students showing up! That is 15 students whose lives can be transformed and that can be empowered to reach their campus, their families, and their communities for Christ!
