Intern Kickoff 2014

Right now I’m sitting in a room filled with about 20 new interns with Destino and Epic. There is a lot of excitement, anxiety, passion, and fear. This weekend they are being initiated into the staff world as they begin their year-long commitment to serve with us. We are so excited to have all of these new laborers ready to be used by God to reach students all over the country.

There are so many stories represented in this room. Stories of how God has already worked and stories waiting to be written about how God will show up in the next year. All of them are taking huge steps of faith, but I have been so impressed with the wiliness of some to face incredible barriers to follow God’s call into ministry.

Bea became a believer through Cru in Venezuela before her family moved to Miami. She has been volunteering her time on campus until she became eligible for employment. Her parents aren’t totally supportive of her going into full-time ministry, and her network of potential ministry partners seems much to0 small to raise all the funds she will need. But her passion for the lost and the conviction of her call are driving her forward in faith.

Vanessa, a student from UCLA, is feeling the weight of providing for her family. She is the oldest of 3 children of a single mom who is currently unemployed, so she has been the primary provider even as a student. She is trusting that God can continue to provide through generous ministry partners.

However God chooses to provide and wherever he leads them in the future, a second year intern, David, expressed so well why we believe in our intern program is worth it.

"I don’t know what I’m going to do after this year, but I know whatever I do that I’m going to live missionally."
